Celtics' Depth Submerges Mavericks in Game 3
Boston's Bench Proves Invaluable
The Boston Celtics once again showcased their formidable depth in Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 107-89. Despite a strong performance by the Luka Doncic-Kyrie Irving duo, the Celtics' supporting cast proved too much to overcome.
Celtics Dominate the Paint
Boston's frontcourt trio of Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, and Robert Williams III wreaked havoc in the paint, combining for 52 points and 27 rebounds. The Mavericks' big men struggled to keep pace, with Christian Wood and Dwight Powell combining for just 23 points and 17 rebounds.
The Celtics also dominated the glass, outrebounding Dallas 52-36. Their ability to control the paint limited the Mavericks' second-chance opportunities and set the tone for a dominant victory.
Mavs' Scoring Woes Continue
While Doncic and Irving combined for 48 points, the rest of the Mavericks' roster struggled to find their rhythm. Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Maxi Kleber combined for just 27 points on 8-of-28 shooting.
The Mavericks' poor shooting allowed the Celtics to build a double-digit lead in the third quarter and cruise to a comfortable victory. The Celtics' defense held Dallas to just 39% shooting from the field, including 28% from three-point range.
Series Impending End
With the Celtics now leading the series 3-0, the Mavericks face an uphill battle to avoid a sweep. The Celtics have proven to be too strong for Dallas, and their depth has been a major factor in their dominance.
Game 4 of the series is set for June 8, 2024, in Boston. If the Celtics can secure one more victory, they will claim their first NBA championship since 2018.
